Victoria Hall came into being because of Sir Barton, Consul in Geneva of Her Most Gracious Majesty, Queen Victoria. Having created a brass band, the "Harmonie Nautique", he decided to construct a concert hall in which it could perform. He planned, and had built, a beautiful building seating 1,850, with exceptional acoustics and decorated in pure Rococo style. Since its inauguration in 1894, over 2,000 artists, orchestras and choruses have performed there. In September 1984 a fire damaged most of the hall and it took three years to restore the building to its former splendour.
