The mountain village of Vals is located approximately 32 km southwest of Films and 20 km south of Ilanz (see separate entry). Winter sports enthusiasts will enjoy the Dachsberg ski area; regarded as snow sure, it provides skiing at altitudes of between 1,270 and 2,941 and has five lifts. A Val feature is the 30°C spring and the highly regarded thermal spa building, built out of local quartzite and designed by the 2009 Pritzker Prize winning architect Peter Zumthor. Other attractions include the local museum and the village square surrounded by original houses, roofed with local quartzite tiles.
