The central Alps are famous for their deposits of crystals and minerals and the Uri Crystal Museum is one of the most fascinating of its type in Switzerland. It is located on the outskirts of Seedorf, next to the attractive late Gothic (1558) A Pro castle and about 4 km west of Altdorf. The building, with its deep vaults, winding rooms and stone walls, creates an atmosphere and forms an ideal background for the beautiful minerals on display. The museum basement has slide shows and films and the exhibits are changed frequently for others on loan.
