The approximately two hour walk southwest from Biel, via Vingelz, the old Burgundian settlement of Alfermée, Tüscherz, Wingreis and Twann is a delightful experience. The road runs alongside beautiful Lake Biel and the return can be made by boat from the landing stage of Twann, a village which has preserved its medieval character and has a late-Gothic church with a Roman tower. In 1974-76, excavations in Twann revealed remains, dated back to the period 3000-2000 BC, of early farming settlements. There are also two museums which can be visited, the Dr. Carl Irlet Collection and the Rebhaus Foundation Wingreis.
