Situated on the north bank of the Vorderrhein River, at an altitude of 861 metres and some 22 km northeast of Andermatt, the village of Trun has an idyllic location. First documented in 765 as Tauronto, it has a population of around 1,200. In 1424 the governing federation Grey League was established here; it formed part of the Three Leagues, an alliance which led to the formation of the Graubünden Canton. Local highlights include the 1660-1662 parish church of St Martin with its Romanesque tower, the Sursilvan Museum in the Cuort Ligia Grisch and the 17th century St Maria della Glisch church.
