The trident Fountain, also known as Neptune Fountain (Neptunbrunnen) and Cathedral Mountain Fountain (Münsterbergbrunnen), is located at the junction of Münsterberg and Freie Strasse. It is an 1837 work of the Basel architect Melchior Berri (1801-1854) whose works include the Museum for Natural History and Ethnology and several buildings in the Brüglingen Botanical Garden in Merian Park (see separate entry). The fountain consists of a central column, on top of which are three carved stone dolphins bearing a trident. The water is delivered into the limestone basin through bronze tubes from four basilisks.
