Angela Prader’s Toy Museum, which opened in 1996, has now expanded to three floors with some 600 square metres of exhibition space. The exhibits, which are arranged thematically, are from the 18th to 20th centuries, with particular emphasis on the 19th century. They include dolls, dollhouses, tin toys, trains, carriages and miniatures and the highlight attraction is the large replica of the ‘Berghof’ sanatorium from Thomas Mann’s famous novel ‘The Magic Mountain’, decorated with characters and furniture from the 1920s. The oldest item is a 1699 child’s rattle and there are also working models made up from ‘Meccano’, ‘Märklin’ and ‘Stokys’ kits.
