Geneva’s Town Hall is located in a 16th century architectural masterpiece. It has a winding, paved ramp, enclosed in a square tower, which enabled horsemen to reach all three stories without dismounting. This also provided easy access for litters and sedan chairs, the taxis and chauffeur-driven vehicles of the day. The 15th century Tour Baudet is the oldest element, and has superb frescoes and woodwork. The first Assembly of the Geneva Convention (forerunner of the Red Cross) was held on August 18, 1864, in the Alabama room. And on November 15, 1920, the first Assembly of the League of Nations convened in this building.
