Located about 5 km northwest of Frauenfeld in the Charterhouse of the former Carthusian monastery at Ittingen (see separate entry), the Thurgau Art Museum is one of the canton’s most important cultural institutions. Exhibitions are centred on naïve and outsider art, modern art and Bodensee regional art and the environment created by the buildings has added to the museum’s reputation. The works by Berlingen artist Adolf Dietrich (1877-1957) are central to the exhibitions and are complemented by the works of other local artists, such as Helen Dahm (1878-1968). International artists represented include names such as Camille Bombois (1883-1970) and André Bauchant (1873-1958).
