The Pfalz, a terrace high above the Rhine and located behind the Munster, affords an outstanding view of the old town; it is also a great place to picnic. The name Pfalz comes from the word meaning palace and the residence of the Bishop of Basel was nearby. You can also see the Three Countries Corner and if you walk down the steps you will come to the Cathedral Ferry (Münsterfähre) landing stage. Attached to a wire rope, the force of the current takes the ferry across the Rhine; it is a popular attraction for visitors.
