Grandson has no fewer than twelve decorative fountains embellishing the principal streets of the old city. The octagonal fountain, which is the oldest, is found in front of the church and dates back to 1637. It is around this fountain that the market has been held since the 18th century. In Grandson, as in other wine localities, petty thieving was frequent at the time of the grape harvest. The council built a pilori, a cylindrical swivelling iron cage, moved with a crank. Petty thieves were turned in it until dizzy. A small fountain commemorates this activity.
