The Place de la Madeleine is historically renowned for the Temple de la Madeleine, which played a major role in the Reformation. The church calls to mind names such as Jean Calvin, Guillaume Farel and Michel Servet. Originally built in the 15th century, it stands on the site of several religious constructions, the oldest dating back to the 5th century. The church was restored in the 17th century after it had been devastated by fire. The interior is very plain, but has beautiful modern stained-glass windows. In the Place de la Madeleine is an old merry-go-round that has long been the delight of small children.
