Visitors to Brienz should not miss the Swiss Outdoor Museum-Ballenberg where, on 66 hectares (162 acres), you can appreciate Switzerland as it used to be. Over 100 buildings, more than 100 years old from all over Switzerland, have been authentically reassembled, together with farmyard buildings, animals and herb gardens. You can see craftsmen using traditional tools, performing age-old trades, such as blacksmiths, bakers, cheese-makers, weavers and shingle-makers, all in traditional workshops. Wood carving, basket weaving, spinning, weaving and bobbin-lace making are other traditional crafts that can be seen. There are also picnic areas, barbeque places and restaurants serving typical Swiss meals
