The village of Sufers is in the Hinterrhein district and is located some 46 km southwest of Chur, at an altitude of 1,430 metres. It is sited beside the tranquil Sufnersee, a reservoir with a 58 metre high dam wall built on the Hinterrhein River in 1962. There is a viewing platform and the reservoir has a surface area of 0.90 km² and a capacity of approximately 18.3 cubic metres. Sufers, which has an attractive church and is set in beautiful surroundings, lies some 5 km northeast of the popular resort village of Splügen (see separate entry).
