The 17th century St Peter and St Paul’s Catholic Church is regarded as the major church in the Userne Valley and one of the most important in the Uri canton. Built in 1602, it was enlarged at the end of the century by Bartalomäus Schmid. The outstanding feature is the superb rich baroque interior, which has an exceptional altar by the sculptor Johannes Ritz, a fine organ and noteworthy stuccos. The chapel of St Michael dates from 1640 and was built as an ossuary.
