The impressive spire of St Martin’s Catholic Parish Church is a landmark in the centre of Arbon and the church grounds contain the tiny 11th century St Gallus Chapel (see separate entry). From 1528-1924 the church was used at various times by both Catholics and Protestants. In 1537 the reformed congregation, although in the majority, were forced to return the church to the Catholics and there was religious conflict until 1712, when Thurgau declared equality of religion. Features include the 1490 choir, the 1788 nave and a 1525 Madonna.
