The St Lucius Church, which today serves the needs of the theological college and the seminary, was formerly a monastic church. The original church was also the cathedral until the 9th century, and the round 8th century Carolingian crypt still exists and has visible Romanesque reliefs and other religious carvings. The present building dates from the 12th/13th centuries and the relics of St Lucius were preserved in it until 1529, when the abbot was tortured and killed by the Protestants. The monks were driven out, the relics were transferred to the Cathedral and the monastery remained empty for 100 years.
