In front of the former Commanderie de Saint Jean à Fribourg in the Planche-Supérieure, is the fine St John the Baptist Fountain. The statue sits on a fluted column, which incorporates a frieze of tritons and mermaids supporting coats of arms and a composite capital which has heads of Herod, Herodias, Salome, and St. John. The excellent statue is clothed in Gothic style. The Solothurn stone octagonal basin dates from 1901, but the bronze spouts and supporting dolphins are from 1760.
