The St Biagio Church, restored in the period 1912-1914 to its medieval grandeur, is famous for its murals. It is Bellinzona’s oldest church, dating from the 12th and 14th centuries (the square bell tower was rebuilt in the 15th century). The façade is decorated with 14th century frescos, those of St Christopher and in the lunette over the entrance, being particularly remarkable. Inside there are fragments of 14th century Lombard-Siena school frescos and other 15th century murals. Another highlight is the attractive oil on wood painting of the Virgin and Child, which is dated 1520 and signed by Domenicus from Lugano.
