For those interested in or fascinated by snakes, Jean-Claude and Hilde Villars, both devoted to their love of these reptiles, have opened a snake zoo in Wallenwil near Eshlikon, 15 km southeast of Frauenfeld. In an approximately 250 square metre exhibition area, there are about 200 different species of poisonous and non-poisonous snakes to be seen. There are a further 180 breeding specimens which are not accessible to the public. The zoo is dedicated to increasing acceptance and awareness of snakes, dissemination of knowledge, providing a home for snakes previously in private collections and preventing mass imports.
