The high-tech Kantonsspital is located in Dättwil, about 4 km southwest of Baden, and the Südgarten combines sculptures, plants and landscape in the area which links the hospital and surrounding woods. It was created in 1978 by the husband and wife team Gillian White (b.1939) and the Swiss sculptor Albert Siegenthaler (1938-1984). The main theme of the park is the ‘dance macabre’ with a central horizontal sundial symbolising time. Gillian White is English and one of Europe’s most significant contemporary sculptors; her abstract shapes are influenced by her early ballet training. She met Siegenthaler in Paris and married him in 1962.
