The Schwanden Life Trail is located at Schwanden bei Brienz some 2 km northeast of Brienz; about 4 km long it takes some 1.5 hours to walk. Starting from Dörfli, you set off down the Schwanderstrasse. There are thirteen carved wooden statues along the way, dedicated to the theme of ‘Life’, each provided with a quotation and, to mark the route, there are 16 signposts with carved birds. The figures were carved by apprentices of the Brienz School of Wood Sculpture and date from 2003/4. There is a barbeque area at Schonegg and a delightful area for relaxation at Schwanderbedli.
