Schänis is about 15 km north of Glarus and the Schänis-Weesen-Amden geological experience path, with its information boards, enables visitors and families to learn and understand how the present landscape was shaped. The effect of glaciers, floods, how mountain masses were created and the enormous forces at work is explained along the route. A brochure, giving details of the various sections, individual geo-path stations and sights worth seeing on the route, can be purchased from Tourismus Amden-Weesen and the Schänis or Ziegelbrücke railway stations. The entire route covers 45 km at altitudes between 420 and 1950 metres above sea level.
