The town museum is housed in Arrau’s oldest building, the ‘Schlössli’ (small castle)’, which was in existence when the town was founded early in the 13th century. The museum gives an overview of the town’s history with exhibits covering the ages from the 16th to the 20th centuries and furnished rooms giving a picture of how the various generations lived. Of particular interest is the exhibition on the top floor of part of the Kern collection consisting of optical instruments, lenses, brochures, catalogues, sketches, documents, building plans, wage lists, and many more historic items.
