Savognin, located approximately 38 km south of Chur, is the main town of the Oberhalbstein mountain range. First documented in 1154 as Sueningin, it is a popular summer and winter sports resort. It provides access to Piz Curver (2,972 metres), Somtgant (2,143 metres) and Radons. Discoveries in the Bronze Age settlement, located on the Padnal hill to the south, are mainly from the period between 1800 and 1000 BC. The 1677 Son Martegn Church has a large 1681 fresco by Carlo Nuvolone (1609-1702); the 1644 Nossadonna Parish Church and the 1663 Son Mitgel Church are further attractions.
