Located near the lower funicular station, the Savage Fountain is not by the great local sculptor Hans Gieng, although obviously inspired by his style, it was the last of Fribourg’s Renaissance fountains and dates from 1626/27. The savage appeared on the insignia of a nearby former abbey and he is portrayed here with ivy around his waist, club in the right hand and shield in the left. The Tuscan column is in Ticino granite and the octagonal basin is decorated with raised foliated scrolls.
