Castello di Sasso Corbaro, the third of Bellinzano’s castles, was built in 1479, following the defeat of the Milanese troops at the Battle of Giornico. Construction took the unbelievable time of six months. The square castle, originally known as Burg Unterwalden, is built in a dominant position on a rocky hill above the town and is surrounded by walls up to 4.7 metres thick. It was abandoned in 1798 and eventually became state property in 1919 and restoration began; this included the rebuilding of the outer courtyard, the entrance gates, the 17th century chapel and the well. There are magnificent views.
