Santa Maria della Grazie Church was attached to a disused Franciscan convent which was first mentioned in 1480 records. The interior is divided by a transverse wall which has a huge Renaissance fresco of the Crucifixion with fifteen scenes depicting the life of Christ around. It is thought to date from 1495-1505 and to be the work of a Lombardy artist. Another fresco depicts the veneration of an ancient carved wooden statue of the sleeping Virgin Mary and is known as ‘Dormitio Mariae’. The church was severely damaged by fire after a nativity scene caught alight on New Year’s Eve 1996.
