The Salvation Army museum traces the history of the movement, from its beginnings in 1865 to the present, and in particular its development in Switzerland since commencement in Geneva in 1882. Started in the East End of London by William and Catherine Booth, it was their daughter Catherine who, at the age of 24, started the movement in Switzerland. The turbulent early history, including imprisonment, is told by video and through documents, photos and artefacts. One highlight is the display of cartoons giving the commercial press view, which was, at times, satirical.
