A few kilometres of an immense labyrinth taking tourists through spectacular excavations of an ancient salt mine can be visited at Bex. The tour takes in the various mining techniques used since the first gallery was excavated in 1684, up to the present day. A small train carries passengers to the heart of the mine. From there, a pedestrian circuit follows the search for salt springs, or for rock containing salt, which, in days gone by, was worth its weight in gold. Outside there is a picnic area. A refreshment stand and souvenir shop can be found at the entrance to the salt mines.
