Occupation of the site of Saint-Barthélemy Château dates back to at least 1160, when a castle built on a hill called Castrum Goumoens is mentioned in documents. The chateau was much under siege during the Bourgogne wars and other insurrections, but its walls sheltered noble families such as the Goumoens, the Pesmes, the Affry, the De Lessert, the Bonstetten, and the Cerjat. Since 1946, the Saint-Barthélemy Castle has been the Centre for Curative Education. Enlargement works on the castle have recently been completed.
