Sagno is situated on Monte Bisbino, overlooking Chiasso. Its wonderful location meant many people moving to the village in the latter part of the 20th Century. Ticino’s most important writer and poet, Francesco Chiesa, was born in Sagno. There are a number of interesting buildings, including the 18th Century Parish Church of St. Michael the Archangel. Designed by the architect Simone Cantoni, it was constructed on older foundations and the Roman bell tower is still in place. There are many mountain trails from Sagno leading to Monte Bisbino.
