The Roman Museum is located in Vallon, approximately 9.5 km west of Avenches, on the archaeological site of a Gallo Roman Villa. Opened in October 2002 it traces the region’s Roman heritage with mosaics, mural paintings and many other exhibits, it presents residential life in about the first four centuries AD. The highlights are the two famous mosaics discovered here in 1985, ‘Bacchus and Ariane’ and ‘Venatio’. The museum is only a short distance away from the Roman town of Aventicum (see separate entry), it also stages temporary exhibitions.
