The brightly painted Rathaus (City Hall) is also the seat of government of the Canton of Basel-Stadt. Built in the late Burgundian Gothic style between 1504 and 1521, it partly replaced an earlier town hall. The tower on the right and the wing on the left, are 19th century additions. Two council chambers can be visited, the wood panelled Regierungsratsaal and the Grossratsaal, which displays the coats of arms of the 15 cantons. Other features include the 1511/12 clock by Master Wilhelms, the 1574 statue of Munatius Plancus, the town founder, and the restored paintings of Hans Bock (1608/11) in the courtyard
