The Rhaetian Museum, the historical museum of the Canton of Grisons, is housed in the 1675 baroque patrician residence Buol House, in the old part of Chur. Opened in 1872, it covers the full period from prehistory to the early 20th century. The permanent collection is divided into five sections, Archaeology, History, Ethnology, the Numismatic Collection and the latest, Power and Politics. In the archaeology section most of the finds are from the Stone and Bronze Age, whilst the history section also includes items from the cathedral treasury. The numismatic collection contains over 200,000 objects from antiquity to modern times.
