Opened in 1985, the Swiss Puppet Museum is located in a house in the old Auge quarter of Fribourg. Founded by Jean Bindschedler, a painter, sculptor and creator of puppets, the museum has a collection of more than 3,000 items from all parts of the world. The puppets are both historical and contemporary and made using many different techniques. Additionally there are dance masks, ancient and contemporary Chinese and Indian shadow-theatres, scenery and accessories. Other facilities include a video-viewing area, library and archives and a space for playing with puppets. The Théâtre des Marionnettes de Fribourg give performances in the building.
