The Priory of Saint-Jacques in Mollens dates back to the 12th century, when it was listed as part of the Cluny patrimony of Romainmôtier. However, possession of the priory had already been confirmed by the Bishop of Lausanne in 1148. Mollens was a small monastic centre whose activity consisted of farming and collecting the incomes from its tenants. Records from the 14th to 16th centuries show the revenues and other taxable quotas coming from Berolle, Montricher, Pampigny, Ballens and Villars-Bozon. A prior was in charge of the management of the estate, but the only name known to history was Nicolas, who was listed as prior in 1167.
