La Pierreuse (French for the stony one) is situated south of Chateau-d’Oex in the alpine foothills. It is made up of 34 square kilometres of outstanding landscape stretching across two mountain ranges. As the name suggests, the area is littered with rocks. In this site of national importance there are cliffs, flower-strewn alpine meadows, flat moors, evergreen trees, deciduous forests and numerous birds, including golden eagles, falcons and black grouse. If you enjoying walking why not hike from the mountain station of the Videmanette cable car through La Pierreuse and over the hills to L’Etivaz?
