Located on a mountain 3.5 km southwest of Bad Ragaz, Pfäfers Abbey is also known as St. Pirminsberg and was, according to legend, founded by Saint Pirmin. In 1665, the existing abbey was rebuilt following a fire and the new church dedicated in 1694. The abbey was dissolved in 1838, and the buildings now house the St. Pirminsberg psychiatric clinic. The church was designed by the Vorarlberg architect Hans Georg Kuen and houses paintings mainly from the Ticino artist Giorgoli. The choir area has one of the oldest working organs in Switzerland, built in 1693/94 by the Vorarlberg organ-builder Mathäus Abbrederis.
