There is an impressive peace monument, located about 24 km northwest of Bad Ragaz on Schrina-Hochrugg, 1,300 metres above sea level near the village of Walenstadtberg. It was built between 1924 and 1949 by the Swiss artist Karl Bickel (1886-1982) who worked for Swiss Post and was well known as a stamps graphic designer. The monument has larger than life mosaic figures; the left wall represents nature orientated life and a couple symbolizing love and procreation and the right wall depicts spiritual life. The peace centre is open from spring until autumn and entry is free.
