Novazzano, situated in the beautiful rolling hills of Mendrisio, was home to several renowned artists, such as Carlo Fontana, considered one of the most important architects to have worked in Baroque Rome. He was responsible for the Palazzo Montecitorio, home of the Senate, and also worked on St. Peter’s. Interesting religious buildings in Novazzano include the 18th Century Parish Church of Saints Quirico and Giulitta, the 16th Century Chapel of the Madonna, the 12th Century Chapel of St. Trinity in Castel di Sotto, the 18th Century Chapel of the Blessed Virgin in Boscherina and the 17th Century Chapel of Saints Bartholomew and Bernard in Brusata.
