The Glarus Cantonal Museum is located in Näfels, some 7 km north of Glarus and since 1946 has been housed in the Freuler Palace. Built in the 17th century, this is regarded as the finest and most unique building in the canton. The museum gives the visitor a good insight into the history, development and culture of the Glarus region. Of particular interest is the section covering the textile printing industry and the collection of weapons, uniforms and flags. Skiing is also presented from its introduction in 1893, the formation of the first Swiss ski club and first ski factory.
