Opened in 1933, the Natural History Museum is one of the most important in Switzerland. Its best known exhibit is the preserved body of ‘Barry’, the legendary St Bernard rescue dog, who died in Berne in 1814. There are more than 200 lifelike dioramas, representing exhibits in their natural habitat and a splendid collection of alpine minerals. Other highlights include the exhibitions ‘Earth Planet and Living Space’, covering the earth’s structure, ‘Animals as Architects’, dealing with the building activities of creatures and ‘Fins, Feet and Wings’, about the development of mammals. Don’t miss the intriguing ‘Spectrum of Diversity’.
