The Baur Collection of Far Eastern Art is housed in an elegant private mansion dating from end of the 19th century. The house was bought by Alfred Baur (1865-1951) to use as a museum for his outstanding collection of Chinese ceramics. The pieces range from the Tang (618-907) to the Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. Opened in 1964, the museum houses precious jades and snuff-bottles from the 8th to the 19th century as well as Japanese art objects including lacquer ware, sword fittings, netsuke, and prints. In 2004, a Japanese garden was opened to mark the 40th anniversary of the Museum.
