The Basel Kunstmuseum is not only the most significant public art collection in Switzerland, but the historic span, from the 15th century to the present, gives it international standing. It also has the world’s largest collection of works by the Holbein family. The range of this collection is apparent from the names of just some of the masters from the Renaissance onwards who are represented; these include Konrad Witz, Mathias Grünewald, Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt, Édouard Manet, Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin, Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Arnold Böcklin, Pablo Picasso, Edvard Munch and artists from the periods of Constructivism, Dadaism and Surrealism.
