The Musée d’Ethnographie de Genève was founded in 1901 by Professor Eugène Pittard. It has seven departments dedicated to the cultures of Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania, as well as visual anthropology and ethnomusicology. The museum is the second largest in Switzerland in terms of the size of its collections, with around 100,000 objects from five continents. Today, the Musée d’Ethnographie offers comprehensive exhibitions on major societal issues; landmark exhibitions about collections and collectors and Geneva’s history; and special exhibitions dealing with topical questions.
