It is suggested that visitors to the Basel Münster take a pleasant stroll from Münsterplatz along the Rhine, via Augustinerstrasse which joins Rheinsprung, to St Martin’s Church and Mittlere Bridge (see separate entries). There is an interesting wall fountain in Augustinerstrasse, one of many to be seen throughout the city. The Martinsgasse runs parallel to Rheinsprung and it has two elegant patrician houses, the Blue and White Houses (Blaues Haus and Weisses Haus), which date from 1763 to 1770 and were built for the silk-merchants Lukas and Jakob Sarasin. The St Martin’s Church square also has an ornate fountain.
