Biel has been the centre of the machine tool industry for more than a century. The Muller Centre is a museum set up by the Muller family and housed in a 1901 foundry, altered to reproduce 20th century workshops. Opened in 2002, there are more than 150 machines dating from 1880-1940; the very lifelike figures working at their benches add to the reality of workshops of the era. One hall is devoted to the latest technological developments and computer controlled machines. Part of the building is used for seminars, banquets and other functions.
