Located in the cobbled Münsterplatz, the Moses Fountain was originally erected in 1545 and was another of Hans Geing’s famous Renaissance fountains which still grace the city. It was rebuilt in 1790/91, when the Louis XVI style basin was designed by Niklaus Sprüngli (1725 1802). The statue shows Moses holding the Ten Commandments and pointing to the Second ‘You shall not make for yourself any graven image’. The fountain is in front of the Münster (see separate entry), where many images were destroyed during the Reformation.
