In the early 20th Century, a colony based on the principles of naturalism, theosophy, vegetarianism and nudism was founded above Ascona. The colony attracted many famous visitors, including writers such as Hermann Hesse, E.M. Remarque, the psychoanalyst Otto Gross and Rudolf Steiner. There are three buildings on the museum circuit: Casa Anatta, Casa Selma and the wooden pavilion of Chiaro Mondo dei Beati. Casa Anatta, the home of the founders, was chosen as Switzerland’s most original wooden house. A permanent exhibition on the history of the Monte Verità is on display.
